Academy News
We have recently launched our Junior Player Development Program in Conjunction with Medicus golf. The Junior Player Development Program is a simple yet scientific golf instructional program that educates juniors on swing mechanics and defining a swing pattern for accomplishing lifelong swing success. The program encompasses on-course training and management, equipment fitting, and mental coaching.
The key ingredient that we provide is a "Game Plan" for success. In doing so we empower the player to absorb, apply and even correct themselves when things may go awry. This is precisely what all our players have and are receiving on a daily basis that are in our Player Development Programs which range from junior to mini tour players.
Our goal, for those who desire, is to be the player’s advocate with college coaches across the USA so that they may be placed on the radar for potential college golf.
This program is unlike anything currently available and through Quintin's extensive knowledge as well as using state of the art technology to further enhance the learning process together with hands on approach this is an opportunity for the serious golfer not to miss. For more info contact us!

3D Motion Analysis

Our state of the art 9 Camera M.A.T.T System being used at the Studio and as used on tour to Fit Taylormade’s Staff players is the only of it's kind in Johannesburg!!! It not only tells us what the ball is doing similar to most fitting systems but also shows the club data as well as what the body is doing throughout the swing giving a complete overview of the motion. Using markers placed on the Golf Club and Body we can pinpoint to the degree what equipment would best be suited to a players style as well or what changes the players need to make from a coaching perspective to bring his or her motion in line with our extensive Tour database we have on show.
Not only is the system a great learning tools as well as the most comprehensive fitting system available but also an unbelievable experience that golfers ought not to miss. Stop by the Studio to get your clubs correctly fitted or to identify what areas in your swing need upgrading – Truly an Unforgettable Experience!

Please also feel free to visit our forum http://vanderberg.informe.com/forum/ The forum is full of interesting info and videos for you all to enjoy! We encourage you to ask questions and post swings for review and we will try our best to get back to you timeously.

Short Game

This edition we will be taking a closer look at what it takes to become successful on the greens. For years now we see players spending countless hours on their strokes on the putting green looking for ways to groove the perfect putting stroke to roll the ball into the cup. Did you know that the best putters mainly excel at timing and controlling speed?
Priority #1 - Speed
Putting Experts say:
David Pelz - 17" past the hole
HA Templeton - 12" past on a level putt
What do they all have in common? Consistent speed!
Consistent speed eliminates a lot of indecision
Indecision = reason why people miss putts
Have one speed, and pick the line that matches your speed.
Priority# 2 -Read
developing a normal speed (12” thru the hole) is the first step in green reading!
The first step of reading greens is knowing the intended speed that you will deliver the ball into the cup. Next take a good look at what the last 2- 3 feet will do. Learn to read putts backward from the cup to the ball. Then map out the route backwards to the ball and decide where you need to launch the ball.
Now the Progression:
» Reading greens starts with a consistent delivery speed
» Identify the fall line through the cup.
» Identifying the breaking pattern within the last 2-3 feet
» Matching delivery speed and line
» Working backward from cup to ball
» Targeting for distance and elapsed time for arrival.
» Launch it!
Priority #3 – Aim
Aim your ball or your putter to the Aim Point, not the apex of the putt as it will always be too low.
Priority #4 – Stroke
“A good putting stroke is a "well-timed consistent moving pattern" that launches the ball reasonably on-line with a quality roll that traverses along or near the intended curvilinear/ linear

From the Lesson Tee
With the Sunshine Tour getting back into full swing we would like to wish all of our tour Players the best of success and we will be monitoring their results closely. We know how much work has been put into refinements in the off season. Our featured player for this month is Sunshine Tour player Tyrone Mordt. He has recently returned from a successful 3 month USA stint, displaying various good finishes and narrowly missing out by qualifying for a PGA Tour Event by a single shot. We expect great results from Tyrone in the upcoming months under Quintin’s watchful eye.
We will be featuring some more of our amateurs and Tournament Professionals in upcoming newsletters on changes they have made to their actions and respective results.
We would also like to make use of this opportunity to introduce our new loyalty program and give back a little something to our clients for their continued support. For every 3 new clients booked for a lesson we will offer you 1 FREE session on the house! Now how is that for a great kick off to the coming season!!!
